Why now

South Asia is entering a critical period for mental health

Rapid social change, urbanization, migration, climate-related disasters and widening inequalities are reshaping the mental health needs of millions, while services remain concentrated in cities, far from those who need them most.

The reality

Significant gaps persist in awareness, service availability, professional regulation, trained human resources, financing, research and early intervention across the region.

The progress

Community-based initiatives, digital mental health, school and workplace programs, suicide prevention efforts and policy reforms are opening new doors.

The opportunity

InMHC 2027 brings the region's professionals, researchers, policymakers and communities to one table to build what comes next.

One question guides us

“What kind of mental health system does South Asia need by 2030, and what actions must we take today to build it?”

Around this question, we gather professionals, researchers, policymakers, universities, development partners, community organizations, corporate voices and advocates, to examine present realities and collectively envision a stronger future.

The Bardiya difference

A conference in a village, not a convention centre

Most conferences ask you to fly into a capital city and never leave the hotel ballroom. We chose differently. InMHC 2027 takes place in Bardiya, Western Nepal, far from Kathmandu, close to the communities whose mental health we speak about.

You will be welcomed into homestays run by local families, share meals from a community kitchen, and spend a full day walking with the people of Bardiya, because here, community-based mental health is a way of life.

Homestay hosted

Stay with Tharu host families: hospitality as it has been practiced for generations.

Community kitchen

Meals prepared with local ingredients by the community, for the community.

Nature at the door

Bardiya National Park, home of the Bengal tiger, borders the conference grounds.

Fireside evenings

Story circles and lived-experience dialogues under open Terai skies.

From … to …

Moving the regional conversation

InMHC 2027 exists to shift how South Asia thinks and acts on mental health: seven movements, each one deliberate.
