Mental Health Innovation, Research and Future Directions
Innovation that is scientifically responsible, ethically sound and culturally grounded.
Why this theme matters
The future of mental health care in South Asia will depend on the region’s ability to innovate while remaining grounded in scientific evidence, ethics, cultural relevance and human dignity.
Rapid advances in technology are creating new opportunities for mental health screening, counseling, supervision, education and service delivery. Tele-mental health, digital counseling platforms, mobile applications, artificial intelligence-assisted tools, online psychoeducation and digital monitoring systems may help expand access to care, particularly in areas with limited professional resources.
However, innovation is not limited to technology. New community-based models, culturally adapted interventions, locally developed counseling approaches, peer-support systems, low-cost mental health programs and creative public health strategies may be equally important.
This thematic area will create a space for researchers and practitioners to present emerging evidence, innovative models and future-oriented ideas.
The conference will encourage innovation that is scientifically responsible, ethically sound, affordable, accessible and responsive to the realities of South Asian communities.
