About the conference
Born in Nepal, belonging to the region
The International Mental Health Conference 2027 is organized by Nepali psychology professionals, organizations, colleges and university faculties, and designed as a platform for all of South Asia.
South Asia is entering a critical period in the development of its mental health systems. Rapid social change, urbanization, migration, economic pressure, climate-related disasters, technological transformation, changing family structures, youth unemployment, substance use, suicide, violence, workplace stress and widening social inequalities are reshaping the mental health needs of millions of people across the region.
At the same time, the region continues to experience significant gaps: in awareness, service availability, professional regulation, trained human resources, financing, research, early intervention and access to quality care. Mental health services remain concentrated largely in urban areas, while rural, remote and marginalized communities face limited access to qualified professionals and appropriate psychosocial support.
Yet there is real momentum. Community-based initiatives, digital mental health services, school and workplace interventions, suicide prevention programs, locally developed psychosocial models, professional networks, policy reforms and growing public awareness are creating new opportunities for transformation.
InMHC 2027 exists to gather that momentum into one place, and one shared direction.
The central question
“What kind of mental health system does South Asia need by 2030, and what actions must we take today to build it?”
The conference will focus on identifying existing problems and on exploring practical innovations, evidence-based solutions, policy reforms, regional cooperation and sustainable models of care that can contribute to a healthier South Asia by 2030.
The road ahead
No single profession, institution or country can do this
The future of mental health in South Asia will require collaboration among governments, professionals, universities, researchers, health institutions, development agencies, community organizations, the private sector, families, young people and people with lived experience. InMHC 2027 is the common platform where these voices meet.

A note from the organizers
We are psychologists, counselors, teachers and researchers from Nepal, a country that knows both the weight of mental health need and the strength of community. We are organizing InMHC 2027 with our colleges, faculties, professional associations and the people of Bardiya, because we believe the region's mental health future will be built together, or not at all.
Wherever you are joining from (a lecture hall in Dhaka, a clinic in Kabul, a classroom in Malé, a ministry in Colombo), you are genuinely welcome here.
